A story of Lake Kivu

On Monday, I spontaneously joined Miri, Bjorn and Philipp on a trip to Kibuye, in Western Rwanda on Lake Kivu. (thanks Bjorn for the photos!)

We spent 2 days relaxing, enjoying the sun and the views...

And of course we commandeered a boat and rowed off into the distance to discover new lands.

We sailed to Peace Island, where we met some of the locals...

But luckily we were welcome so we came ashore and explored.

Philipp and I braved the lake (it was actually really warm!) and went off to conquer new islands...

We had a wonderful day sailing the seas of Lake Kivu. It was especially nice to take a few days away from Butare, where we have been working hard with the new RVCP committee.

Now we are back in Butare, the ice cream machine at Inzozi Nziza is finally fixed (yay for non-profit ice cream!), Bjorn and Philipp leave Rwanda on Saturday and I am awaiting the status of my visa extension so I can stay in Rwanda for another month.
